We might be busy polishing our shoes, ready for BETT, the education technology show (http://www.bettshow.com) in London, but here at SCAN pro-video we always have time for our favourite waste of time, Twitter. And the current trend that’s making us feel calmly thrilled is the new app Vine. This slightly buggy free app for iOS allows you to record 6 seconds of video and share it through Twitter (and probably Facebook, if they get their act together).

Six seconds. We Pro-video producers had only just got used to getting our message across in less than thirty for landing page videos. It’s going to take some serious rethinking and clever concepts to use Vine effectively.

Some companies are doing it already…The Gap and Liverpool FC have already posted videos, even though the app is only a few days old.

The short-short form video may really change the way we produce for brands. It is like that old parlour game, tell a story in less than six words. SCAN Pro-video were always very good at that (Sample: “Please don’t do that again. Really.”) As producers we should welcome this challenge, and even if Vine doesn’t become the video world changer we predict, some product like it will. The quicker we start accepting that big isn’t always best, the faster we’ll get our clients messages across to those millions of tweeters.
